The Global Field Operations Industrial Engineering (GFO IE) team has an exciting opportunity to join the team as an Industrial Engineer within Enterprise Operations, located in Mesa, Arizona. GFO has a broad level of experience they are considering for this position including: Associate or Mid-Level.

This position provides Industrial Engineering and Lean deployment functional excellence within Boeing’s supply chain by rapidly analyzing, designing, and implementing sustainable production system improvements. Industrial Engineers lead engagements aimed at support on-time delivery, quality improvements, and cost initiatives through application of Industrial Engineering principles. Each team member works in close collaboration with Boeing stakeholders and supplier leadership to plan and implement improvement projects and train suppliers on a rapid process improvement framework.

Projects range across the Enterprise including BCA, BDS, and BGS engagements in collaboration with GFO and Supply Chain Operation teams. Industrial Engineers may be deployed to suppliers for various durations (including anywhere from one week to three months and including long-term engagements domestic and international travel for up to 12 months); however, short-term engagements are most likely. Statement of work includes supplier recovery, sourcing and work transfers, supplier health and readiness, affordability, and functional excellence. Team members must be ready to travel up to 75% of the time.

Humility – able to collaborate with suppliers in the spirit of learning and humility

Grit & tenacity – IEs are never sent to an easy supplier engagement. The IE must be prepared to work through difficult working situations

Problem solving skills – commensurate with work, IEs must be able to break down complex problems into mutually exclusive, collectively exhaustive (MECE) work structures

Influencing skills – 30% of IE work is technical. The remaining 70% is convincing others that the technical solutions are correct. IEs must have skills to influence leaders and workers alike

Good teaming skills – IEs collaborate together and sometime team up at difficult engagements. Team relationship is very important for a cohesive working environment

Position Responsibilities as a leader within the team:

Makes use of and applies job practices, techniques, standards, principles, theories, and concepts

Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity

Works under general supervision, and no instructions are needed for routine work. Receives general instructions for special assignments. Work is reviewed for sound technical judgment and overall adequacy

Contributes to the completion of specific project milestones. Failure to achieve results, reaching erroneous decisions or making faulty recommendations may cause delays in program schedules and may result in the allocation of additional resources

Interacts primarily with internal personnel and infrequently with inter-organizational and external customers on routine matters

Position Responsibilities with Suppliers:

Demonstrate leadership initiative, excellent communication skills, a strong technical foundation and project management skills are required

Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including leadership, to ensure tactical approach and progress meet plan requirements

Effectively influence audience through data-driven approach and demonstrated capability to achieve project commitment and team buy-in

Manages, defines, negotiates, and controls the scope, cost, and timing of projects, and direct the use of project management tools (e.g., work break-down structure, precedence network, and resource allocation). Ensures project is completed within budget, and on schedule

Plan, prepare, train, apply and support cost projects to achieve improvement goals at key supplier sites; partnering with cross-functional Boeing and Supplier teams

Apply Lean principles to Boeing supply chain production systems

Utilize intrinsic knowledge of airframe production systems to guide implementation and replication of advanced manufacturing techniques at supplier sites

Identify production constraints and inefficiencies to mitigate capital investment, and drive improvement plans to reduce flow days, reduce unit production hours, and improve quality.

Candidates must be flexible to accommodate travel requirements and be willing to move between sites as required by business needs

Candidates may be placed in long term or short term domestic or international temporary assignments

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

2+ years of experience with Microsoft Office Products (i.e. Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word)

2+ years of experience using professional written and verbal communication skills to achieve deliverables

2+ years of experience working in or supporting a manufacturing environment

2+ years of experience in engineering

Ability to travel up to 75% domestic and international to supplier’s sites

Preferred qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate of Science degree from an ABET accredited course of study in engineering and ABET accredited college/university

Industrial Engineering and/or Systems Engineering is preferred

Experience in engineering modeling and/or analysis with computer programming of analytical models, simulations, and/or data processing

2+ years of work experience leading or managing cross functional teams

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Project, Primavera, or other project management tools

2+ years of experience in Lean Manufacturing

2+ years of experience or relevant course work in any of the following: Six Sigma, Lean+, Manufacturing and/or Process Improvement

2+ years of experience in root cause analysis and corrective action.

Experience working directly with Boeing Suppliers is preferred

Experience in 3 or more of the following: Process Modeling, Manufacturing Operations Support, Project Management, Lean Manufacturing, Statistical/Trend Analysis, Six Sigma, Capacity Planning, Production/Mfg System Design, Work Methods Analysis/Time Standards, Planning/Constraint Based Scheduling, Ergonomics & Human Factors, Facilities Layout Design, Root Cause Analysis, Inventory Control, Value Stream Analysis

Experience interacting with employees to gather data for process improvements. This may include observing and documenting processes, and collecting data in manufacturing areas or in aircraft during various production phases. This requires the ability to walk, stand, and enter into aircraft via steps or ladders as needed. Also, candidate may be in proximity to chemicals when observing/gathering data in an area in the factory where chemicals are in use

Relocation:

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Mid-Level (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary Pay Range Associate Level: $72,250 - $97,750

Summary Pay Range Mid-Level: $86,700 - $117,300
